Projects / Creating Romani Amateur Groups

PROJECT: CREATING ROMANI AMATEUR GROUPS. A Romani amateur group Amala Romenge has been created in Zlataritza. It turned into an attracting center for the musicians who need appearance. We managed to canalize the youthful enthusiasm and the mastery of the young musicians. They have collected and learned traditional already forgotten wedding songs. Furthermore, we have recorded a CD with this music. The CD has rather ethnographic value in a pair with the collection of articles named "Traditions and Memory. Volume 1: The Romani Wedding in Veliko Turnovo Region." Within the project a Romani club was established in Zlataritza.

Dates: June 2002 - January 2003.

Grant organizations: Open Society Foundation, Roma Program, Sofia.

Partnering institutions: "Razvitie" - the Cultural House in Zlataritza, the Municipality of Zlataritza.

Places of implementation of the project: the town of Zlataritza (Zlataritza Municipality).

Target groups: the Roma community (Drandari) in Zlataritza.

Sustainability of the project: The amateur group established within the frames of the project, was integrated in the cultural life of Chitalishte "Napredak". The leader of the groups was appointed a full-time employee in the Chitalishte. At present, the cultural house is strongly engaged with the Roamni cultural activities in the town.
