24.04.2019Educational experts discussed the perspectives of quality education in multicultural environment

Heads and experts of Regional Education Departments across the country discussed the prospects for quality education in multicultural environment. The meeting was held in the village of Arbanassi on 16th and 17th of April 2019 and was organized by Amalipe Center with the financial support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Trust for Social Achievement.

Within two days, the current developments and challenges for educational integration policies and the role of REDs in them were discussed. The main topics included in the discussion were desegregation and full range of students at local level.

During the sessions were discussed also:

• Support for unified schools;

• Innovative schools in multicultural environment;

• Support for vocational high schools;

• The process of desegregation;

Moderator of the meeting was Deyan Kolev, chairman of Amalipe Center, and Boyan Zahariev - Program Director at Open Society Institute, Lalo Kamenov and Nirin Hasanova - experts from the CEISCEM. The event was attended by the Heads of REDs Gabrovo, Pernik, Plovdiv, Varna, Kyustendil, Kardzhali, Haskovo, Lovech, Dobrich, Vratsa, Montana.

The participants were particularly interested in the Amalipe Center's experience and in particular in the results of the schools in the network Every student will be a winner to reduce dropout, raise motivation for learning, and engage parents.

The head of the Regional Education Department Gabrovo, Mr. Georgi Marinov, presented the experience of Gabrovo region and the local educational institutions for desegregation and integration of the students from the closed "Roma school" in the new schools. The Head of the RED Veliko Tarnovo Eng. Rozalia Licheva congratulated the participants and stressed the successful cooperation with the Amalipe Center on the full range mechanism on the territory of Veliko Tarnovo district.

At the end of the day, participants were divided into two groups where they shared their experience and good practices in the following areas: support for Unified and Vocational Schools, the role of innovative schools and the process of desegregation. The Head of RED Haskovo Mrs. Hristina Boeva presented the experience of educational mediators in the field and their role in keeping the students at school.

The role of the MES system projects to implement educational integration policies, including Support for Success and Active Inclusion Programs were discussed during the last session of the meeting.

The National Meeting of the Heads of REDs "Perspectives for Quality Education in Multicultural Environment" is part of the series of events,held at Rachev Residence Hotel, Arbanassi in the period 16-18 April 2019.
