From September 29 to October 10 the annual Human Dimensions Implementation Meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) takes place in
The key massages of both events were:
- Roma integration is unfinished business and many steps should be undertaken in this direction;
- participating states should dedicate human and financial resources for Roma integration and should convert it into one of their main political priorities;
- European Roma Strategy is necessary with financial back-up and establishing Roma unit in the European Commission. Nevertheless, this should not abolish the responsibility of the national states for Roma integration!;
- consultative structures for Roma integration within the national governments are still necessary but they have to receive enough competences to participate in the decision-making process and to be a real tool for Roma and NGO participation in the decision-making process. At the same time, the time of only consultative structure is close to its end and executive agencies with managing competencies and real Roma participation are necessary.
